Chiang Mai
Loi Kroh Road
Overview
Loi Kroh Road is Chiang Mai's main adult entertainment strip, running east from the Night Bazaar toward the Old City moat. It's a compact stretch of open-air bars, go-go venues, and massage parlors that come alive after 9pm. The atmosphere is laid-back — no aggressive touts, no neon overload. Tables spill onto the street, music is loud but not deafening, and the whole scene feels approachable even for first-timers.
Bar girls sit outside most venues and will approach you politely as you walk past. Barfines are lower than Bangkok and the overall experience is more relaxed. Most venues close around 1-2am. This is the street to start any night out in Chiang Mai.
The Scene
Loi Kroh Road is Chiang Mai's genuine adult-nightlife strip — the beer-bar and GoGo street that the backpacker party at Zoe in Yellow is not. Running from the moat toward the night bazaar, it holds a low-key string of open-air beer bars, a few GoGo bars, and Thai-style spots, at a fraction of the intensity of Bangkok or Pattaya. The pace is relaxed and northern; this is a sit-and-chat beer-bar scene more than a high-energy strip.
It draws long-stay expats and repeat visitors who've tired of the southern chaos, and it runs at an easy tempo that suits the city.
The Women
The women working Loi Kroh are Thai — a higher share of local northern (Lanna) women than Bangkok, alongside the usual Isaan presence. The beer-bar model makes for a friendly, unhurried dynamic, and Chiang Mai's reputation is for a gentler, less hard-sell scene than the south. English is functional. The everyday-women and dating side of Chiang Mai is covered on the city page — Loi Kroh itself is the working strip.
