Koh Phangan

Haad Rin Beach

Overview

Haad Rin is the epicenter of Koh Phangan's party scene and home to the Full Moon Party. The beach itself is beautiful — a curved white sand bay flanked by rocky headlands. On a normal night it's a pleasant stretch of beach bars with decent music and a relaxed crowd. On Full Moon night it transforms into one of the most intense party environments in Southeast Asia.

The main strip of bars runs along the beachfront — Cactus Bar, Tommy Resort, Zoom Bar, and dozens more. Fire dancers perform on the sand. Music pumps from every direction. The crowd is overwhelmingly young and international. It's one of those experiences that's hard to describe and impossible to forget, for better or worse.

The Scene

Haad Rin is the beach at the southern tip of Koh Phangan that hosts the Full Moon Party — the legendary monthly beach rave that draws tens of thousands of young travellers. This is party territory, not a red-light district: buckets, fire shows, neon paint, beach bars and DJs, with a crowd that is overwhelmingly young, international and there to dance until sunrise.

Between parties it's a low-key backpacker beach. Anyone expecting a paid scene will find essentially none — Haad Rin is about the party and the beach.

The Women

The crowd at Haad Rin is young international travellers, so the women here are far more likely to be fellow backpackers than any local workforce — it's a social, mixing party scene, not a transactional one. The handful of Thai locals are mostly seasonal workers running the bars and stalls. Honest expectation: come for the Full Moon Party and the beach; the red-light element is essentially nil.
