Xitun / Fengjia

Xitun District in western Taichung contains Fengjia Night Market — one of Taiwan's largest and most visited, drawing 100,000+ visitors on peak weekend nights. The surrounding streets have developed a bar and cafe culture that serves the National Chung Hsing University and Feng Chia University student population, which gives the zone a younger and more expat-accessible character than Zhongshan Road.

The nightlife here is bars and clubs rather than beer houses — more straightforward for visitors without Chinese. Some English-language establishments have established in the expat-adjacent strip near the night market perimeter. The crowd is younger and more mixed than the central Zhongshan zone.

Fengjia itself runs every evening from 4pm to midnight — arrive hungry. The stinky tofu, egg waffles, and grilled seafood are all worth the queue. The bars are the natural follow-up after eating your way through the market.

The Xitun district is home to Fengjia Night Market — Taiwan's largest, a huge, buzzing student-and-tourist food-and-shopping market by Feng Chia University — plus the surrounding bars and clubs that serve the big young crowd. The headline here is the night market and a youthful, energetic nightlife rather than an adult district; Taichung's Taiwanese-style hostess venues sit elsewhere. Xitun/Fengjia is about street food, shopping and a young party crowd.

Fengjia's crowd is overwhelmingly students and young people — so the women here are fellow market-goers, students and young locals, not a nightlife workforce. It's a social, youthful scene. Taichung's everyday women share Taiwan's modern, friendly, foreigner-approachable character with the central region's lively streak, and the big student population makes it easy to meet locals; the city page covers that side.
